01 / Start with the DC requirement

The right output.
The right connection.

A DC power project starts with the electrical needs of the equipment it will supply.

Define the operating voltage, current demand and required continuity before choosing the generating arrangement. When batteries are involved, the charging profile and battery management system become essential parts of the specification.

ENMAKSAN POWER can be contacted to review your requirements and establish the equipment scope for a proposed DC power solution. The final architecture, ratings and compatibility should be confirmed in the technical proposal.

Generation, voltage regulation and battery charging are distinct functions. Confirm which functions are included in the proposed system and which require separate equipment.

02 / The complete power path

Generate. Regulate.
Deliver usable DC power.

A functional overview. The actual equipment arrangement depends on the selected configuration.

01 — Energy generation

The engine and generating machine provide electrical energy within their specified duty and site conditions.

02 — Output conditioning

Rectification, regulation or charge control is included as required to match the output to the DC system.

03 — Controlled delivery

Compatible protection and controls connect the output to approved loads, batteries or the site’s DC bus.

03 / Applications

Built around
the connected load.

Potential applications to evaluate against the actual voltage, duty and integration requirements.

01 / TELECOMMUNICATIONS

Telecom infrastructure

Assess power for compatible DC equipment at remote communications sites, with battery support and site-specific operating requirements.

02 / REMOTE OPERATIONS

Off-grid installations

Review fuel-based generation alongside batteries and renewable sources where a utility connection is unavailable or impractical.

03 / ENERGY STORAGE

Battery charging systems

Plan controlled charging around battery chemistry, allowable current, temperature limits and the battery management system.

04 / CONNECTED INFRASTRUCTURE

Monitoring & control sites

Evaluate continuity for compatible monitoring, communications and control loads with defined power quality requirements.

05 / HYBRID ENERGY

Solar–battery hybrid systems

Consider generator operation during low solar availability or high demand, coordinated with storage and power conversion equipment.

06 / INDUSTRIAL USE

Dedicated DC loads

Assess equipment requiring a regulated DC supply, including its voltage range, startup behaviour and electrical isolation needs.

04 / Engineering details

Specify every interface.
Control every connection.

Use these topics to define a clear enquiry and align the generating system with your equipment.

DC voltage, current & usable output

Specify the required nominal DC voltage, allowable operating range, continuous and peak current, and load profile. Define the rating at the DC output terminals, including any conversion losses and auxiliary loads. Do not treat an engine rating or an AC kVA rating as the usable DC output.

Generation & power conversion

Confirm whether the proposed arrangement uses direct DC generation or an alternator with rectification and regulation. These are different architectures. Define conversion equipment, cooling, efficiency conditions and supply boundaries in the technical proposal. A standard AC generator alone is not a regulated DC power source.

Battery charging & BMS coordination

Identify battery chemistry, series configuration, capacity, permitted charge profile and temperature limits. Agree how charging is controlled and how the generator responds to battery management system commands, faults and disconnect events. A compatible charge controller is required where the generating system does not provide the necessary charging functions.

Voltage regulation & power quality

Define acceptable voltage tolerance, ripple, load-step response and transient behaviour against the connected equipment requirements. Review operation with rapidly changing loads, converters and battery connection or disconnection. Confirm performance using the proposed equipment data and agreed test conditions.

DC protection, isolation & earthing

Specify DC-rated breakers or fuses, disconnects, cable ratings and fault protection for the actual voltage and current. Define polarity, earthing or floating-system requirements, isolation and reverse-current protection. Stored energy from batteries must be included in the fault assessment; AC protective devices are not automatically suitable for DC duty.

Hybrid controls & remote monitoring

Define start/stop thresholds, minimum running time, charging priorities and coordination with solar controllers and batteries. Agree the communications protocol, alarm list and remote monitoring scope. Interface availability and control compatibility must be confirmed for the selected equipment.

Installation, environment & acceptance

Review ambient temperature, altitude, enclosure protection, ventilation, exhaust routing, fuel storage, acoustics and maintenance access. Agree output verification, regulation and ripple tests, charging interlocks, fault responses and handover documentation within the contracted scope.

05 / From requirement to proposal

Define the load.
Build the system around it.

  1. Share the demand

Provide DC voltage, continuous and peak current, duty and an equipment load schedule.

  2. Map the interfaces

Identify batteries, BMS, converters, renewable sources and site monitoring requirements.

  3. Agree the architecture

Define generation, output conditioning, charging controls and protective functions.

  4. Review the scope

Confirm output ratings, operating conditions, testing and supply responsibilities.

06 / Questions answered

Direct current.
Clear answers.

Understand the configuration before you choose the equipment.

What is a DC generator system?

It is a generating arrangement that supplies direct-current power to compatible loads or a DC bus. The output may come from direct DC generation or from an alternator combined with rectification and regulation. The proposed architecture should be stated clearly in the technical specification.

How is DC output different from AC output?

DC has a defined polarity, while AC alternates direction. Connected loads, converters, protective devices and cables must be selected for the actual output characteristics. An AC generator cannot be connected directly to a DC load without a suitable conversion arrangement.

Can it charge batteries directly?

Only where the system provides a charging profile and protective functions compatible with the battery. Battery chemistry, voltage range, charge current and BMS requirements must all be confirmed. A generator output should not be assumed to be a complete battery charger.

Can a DC generator work with solar and batteries?

Yes, when the generator, charge controllers, batteries and supervisory controls are designed to operate together. The integration must define voltage compatibility, operating priorities, reverse-current protection and responses to faults or battery disconnection.

Which voltages and power ratings are available?

Ask ENMAKSAN POWER to confirm available configurations against your required DC voltage, output current, duty and site conditions. Voltage options, model ratings and compatibility should be supported by a current technical datasheet or project-specific proposal.

Will a hybrid system reduce fuel consumption?

It may reduce generator running time where storage and renewable generation cover part of the demand. Actual fuel use depends on the load profile, charging strategy, conversion losses, battery behaviour and operating conditions. Compare options using a site-specific energy assessment.
